Dr. Agnes Wong, MD, PhD, is a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Senior Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She is the former Ophthalmologist-in-Chief and held the inaugural John and Melinda Thompson Chair in Vision Neuroscience for a decade.

Dr. Agnes Wong is one of a few doctors worldwide who dedicates her clinical practice to pediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology—a subspecialty that handles problems of the eye, brain, nerves, and eye muscles. In addition, Dr. Wong provides medical and surgical care for children with strabismus—eye misalignment as a result of diseases of eye muscles, nerves, or the brain.

Dr. Agnes Wong is Professor of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto, where she is cross-appointed to Neurology, Psychology, Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery, and Public Health. She is the former Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences. As a scientist, Dr. Wong's research focuses on strabismus, abnormal eye movements, amblyopia (lazy eye), and vision screening. She has received many peer-reviewed grants and prestigious research awards from organizations across Canada and the USA. Dr. Wong has published over 120 scientific papers and is the author of a major textbook, "Eye Movement Disorders," which has become an instant classic.

Dr. Agnes Wong also dedicates herself to the training and mentoring of future generations of physicians and scientists. She is a much sought-after speaker who has delivered hundreds of invited lectures worldwide. She received numerous teaching awards from U of Toronto and was honoured by the American Academy of Ophthalmology with an Achievement Award for her contribution to continued ophthalmic education. She is the author of "The Art and Science of Compassion, A Primer. Reflections of a Physician-Chaplain," a professional handbook for medical learners and practicing physicians to lead a healthy, compassionate, and flourishing life.
