A Kindred Spirit /

I thought it was only a climb in the rain—
up toward the summit of Tianzi Mountain,
softly folded into mist.

The rain kept falling harder,
soaking through my clothes;
my steps grew heavier and heavier.

Far off,
the stone giants stood in silence,
like a dream just out of reach.

Suddenly, light fell—
spilling gently through a break
in the drifting clouds.
The sun lifted the white veil,
and there before me,
Fairy Scattering Flowers
slowly emerged.

Her sincerity awakened my heart,
and my soul opened gently to hers.

I sat beneath the ginkgo tree
for a long time,
unwilling to rise.

A few fallen leaves lay near me
like a parting gift.
I gathered
the faint echo of her presence
and carried it back
to that faraway place
I call home.
